SOLAR ACTIVITY: For the third day in a row, sunspot 1261 has unleashed a significant M-class solar flare. The latest blast at 0357 UT on August 4th registered M9.3 on the Richter Scale of Flares, almost crossing the threshold into X-territory (X-flares are the most powerful kind). Also, at least two coronal mass ejections are en route to Earth, and they could provoke mild to moderate geomagnetic storms when they arrive on August 4th through 6th. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.
Things on the sun seem to be picking up once again. I plan on entering the CW NAQP contest this weekend wonder how the propagation god's will treat me.
ReplyDeleteHi Mike, I am afraid that condx are poor this weekend, but you'll never know. 73 Paul
ReplyDeleteHi Paul, it is nice to see those high flux numbers but they can accompany nasty solar storms. I hope terrestrial weather is nice so at least some outdoor activities are possible. 73 Dick
ReplyDeleteHi Dick, I hope so too... but forecast is not too good for next week. 73 Paul
ReplyDeleteHallo Paul, ik zou me niet teveel van zonnevlekken aantrekken. Meestal valt het wel mee...73, Bas
