Something strange

Today I worked 3Z5ØKPN a special event station from Warsaw, Poland on 20 meter with CW. Tonight I heard I/PA5CA calling from Italy on 40 meter, I gave him a call, he came back for me, but after I send my name and QTH he was working in the meantime with PAØSVD. Huh? Yeah, S9 + 20 db on his S-meter. That QRO station blown me away. But it was very strange he didn't came back for me. Maybe he forgot me, it's warm and muggy in the shack... or QSB or whatever, though, it's a little strange.

Today we had a magnetic storm, but there is also a sunspot on his way, that's the good news.

Time for something else

It's time for other things to do. First, I go with vacation to Belgium. I have to paint my house, spend time with the family, and maybe in September the sunspots are back. I wish you a nice, warm en relaxing summer. 73's Paul
I heard this morning S59PC with a strong SSB signal on 20 meter. I worked Branko and he gave me a 59 report. Further up today the HF bands are very quite. Nothing special so far.

Surprise yourself

Here you see the antennas of IW3IBK Simon from Stanghella, Italy. I worked him on 20 m early this morning with ssb. Also worked LY1000A Jonas from Siauliai, Lithuania; also with ssb. Though, prospects are not good for HF, it's always worthed to check the bands. There are sometimes nice openings, even in a sunspotless time. So for 20 meter, I did not expect stations loud at 05.00 UTC in the morning. But it does. 2 hours later conditions were gone. Do not be guided by statistics. Surprise yourself and listen at different times on different frequencies.

10 meter

Om photo the S51ZZ shack. I worked Vojko from Nova Gorica, Slovenia on 10 meter SSB. He gave me a 55 report and I was only working with my Miracle Whip indoors (living room). In the peak he was 59, but there was a strong QSB on all signals I heard. It is my first 10 meter QSO as a QRP station.

Though conditions are poor, tonight there was a lot of activity on 20 meter. With ssb I worked ER4OK Lery from Moldavia and IY1GMN clubstation from Sanremo, Italy. They gave both a 59 report.

Another change

A change of speed, a change of style
A change of scene, with no regrets
Ian Curtis – Joy Division – from ‘New Dawn Fades’

Everything changes, nothing stays the same. So I wanted my old call sign back earlier this year. Why? Nostalgia or was I used to the old call sign when I started CW again. Now my CW speed is satisfying ok, and the argument is no longer valid. But with phone is PAØPSY too long, especially when I work QRP. I love a short call sign when I heard one on HF. So, for the fourth time this year I changed my call sign again. I hope this one will last a little bit longer. And I should, because in a few years Agentschap Telecom run out of the short call signs. So, from now on I am PC4T.

Tonight I worked on 30 meter with CW and 3 watt: SQ9IDE Damian from Poland, DL3SEU/QRP Dieter from Germany and HA1ZH Zol from Hungary.

short skip to Germany

On photo the QSL card of DF7IS Klaus from near Karlsruhe, Germany. I worked him with the Club station DLØGER, cw on 40 meter. He was running 5 watts. There not much to do this morning on 40 meter, but I heard only a few German QRP stations working. Isn't that strange? Also worked DK7JI Herbert near Koln, Germany, he was running 9 watts, and on 30 meter with CW DF3OL/P Juergen from Edemissen, Germany with 4 watts and DL9OZ Richard from Friedrichshafen (with 100W), Germany. Those 2 stations were the only stations I heard on 30 meter.

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

On photo HA5MA/P Laci from Budapest, Hungary. I worked him on 40 meter CW. I also worked GØVQW Sandy from Swindon, UK with CW on 40 meter. On 20 meter I worked with CW OK1AHV Beda from Usti, Czech republic.

The Stealth ST940B roof rack Magloop

I found this video on internet about a stealth antenna. Well, it looks like a nice piece of technique. Read more >>>

Monday, June 08, 2009

On photo F4FNL Thierry from Serriere Chautagne, France. I worked him on 20 meter BPSK31. Also worked HA1DRA, Frigyes from Hungary, we worked before. With CW I had a half QSO with IK1TWK Aldo from Rivoli, Italy, on 20 meter but after my return he was vanished. Probably QSB. Conditions on 20 - 40 meter are poor. This weekend I had no time for ham radio, very busy with all kind of things. So maybe this week more QSO's.

Friday, June 05, 2009

This morning I worked IYØTC/Ø from Santa Marinella, Italy with cw on 20 meter it's a Special Event Station, read more >>> Also worked on 20 meter CW: OH4N Leo from Askainen, Finland; F6FIZ Clod from Arles/South, France; TM6SME D DAY station, from Normandy, France; and G4LUO Chris from Sittingbourne, Kent, UK. He was working also qrp with 10 watts.

A new beginning (I hope)

A new sunspot emerge on the surface of our sun. Yep!! It's about time. The Solar Flux is 73 today, so let's hope for a new beginning of cycle 24. I keep my fingers crossed.
This morning I worked Uwe DJ9HX from Neuenstadt, Germany with SSB on 40 meter. On 6 meter I heard CT7/DL8LAQ round 16.00 Z with SSB, I tried to call him but he didn't hear me. Tonight I worked CT2FPY, Lionel from Aveiro, Portugal on 20 meter BPSK31.
